Acupressure points for common pilgrimage problems.
Acupressure Points for the Hajj Journey
The Hajj is the greatest spiritual journey and the most physically demanding — millions of feet, heat, crowding, little sleep. These are the Chinese acupressure points (穴位) that Eastern pilgrims used along the Silk Road — the same routes that carried both the Hajj and medicine together.
1. Foot and Leg Fatigue
Yongquan Point (涌泉 - Bubbling Spring): The center of the sole of the foot. Sit back and support your foot, press with your thumb for 30 seconds × 3 times for each foot. It renews your sense of the ground.
Leg pathway: From the ankle upward with the back of your forearm — relieves leg swelling from long walking. Two minutes per leg before sleep.
2. Heat and Crowd Headache
Taiyang Point (太阳): The side of the temple between the end of the eyebrow and the ear process. Gentle circular massage for one minute — cools the head and relieves heat headache.
Between the Eyebrows (印堂): One finger pressing lightly for 30 seconds — calms and clears the mind.
3. Indigestion from Changed Food
Zusanli Point (足三里): Four fingers below the kneecap and one finger-width outside the leg. The "hundred health point" — massaging for two minutes per leg before meals activates digestion. The most famous point in Chinese medicine for travelers' health.
4. Insomnia from Lack of Sleep
Shenmen Point (神门 - Heart Gate): On the wrist on the pinky side. Before sleep: alternating gentle pressure for two minutes. Even in a crowded tent it works.
5. Heat and General Fatigue
Up to the neck: Press two finger-widths below the base of the skull on both sides — relieves neck strain and accumulated heat.
Complementary Tips for the Pilgrim
- 1. Warm water, not iced — a stomach burdened by heat and walking does not need a cold shock
- 2. Dates + water + a little salt after every long walk — natural electrolyte balance
- 3. Good foot support — prevention is more important than any acupressure point
- 4. Massage your feet before sleep, even two minutes — it makes a difference in your next day
Note
Acupressure points complement relaxation and fatigue relief, and do not treat diseases. Symptoms of stroke, shortness of breath, high fever: seek medical care immediately — field hospitals in the Haram are equipped and free.
