Translation

My late father, Mr. Yuechi, composed the Four Diagnoses Invention in eight volumes, all of which penetrate deeply into the profound chamber; shallow learning cannot peer into its making. Zhen therefore gathered the essence and plucked the flowers, and presumptuously composed this book, in order to facilitate study and reading, as a guide to the pulse. The two families in the world, physicians and patients, all take the pulse as the foremost task, not knowing that the pulse is the last of the four diagnoses, and is called the skillful part only; if a superior scholar wishes to comprehend its entirety, he cannot do so without preparing the four diagnoses. Respectfully written on the shangyuan day of the jiazi year of Jiajing of the Ming at the place of Binhu.
