是水者,气血津液之本源也。

Pinyin

Shì shuǐ zhě, qì xuè jīn yè zhī běn yuán yě.

English Translation

Yang is ever in surplus, yin ever in insufficiency. Thus in the human body, yin is hard to complete and easy to deplete. Moderating food and drink and restraining desires to nourish yin so as to match yang keeps disease from arising.

📝 Commentary

Zhu Zhenheng's Yuan masterwork of the Yin-Nourishing school. Its central thesis — yang is ever in surplus, yin ever insufficient — grounds the advice to moderate diet and desire to preserve yin.
