概述

Yangming Disease is a pattern in Traditional Chinese Medicine characterized by the inward penetration of external pathogenic factors transforming into heat, resulting in a severe interior heat-excess condition. It represents the peak stage of heat in externally contracted diseases, marked by intense fever, sweating, and aversion to heat rather than cold.

理論要點

  • Yangming Disease is classified as an interior, heat, and excess pattern, arising when external pathogens invade and transform into blazing heat.
  • Its fundamental features include generalized heat, spontaneous sweating, absence of aversion to cold with aversion to heat, and a large pulse.
  • It is divided into two subtypes: the Yangming channel pattern, presenting with high fever, profuse sweating, intense thirst, and a surging large pulse, corresponding to the Bai Hu Tang (White Tiger Decoction) pattern.
  • The Yangming bowel pattern manifests with tidal fever, abdominal fullness and pain with tenderness, constipation, and mental confusion or delirious speech, corresponding to the Cheng Qi Tang (Order the Qi Decoction) patterns.
  • Treatment principles focus on clearing heat and generating fluids for the channel pattern, or purging and descending the bowels for the bowel pattern.

常見病機

  • Pathogenesis involves the transformation of external pathogenic cold or wind into heat upon entering the interior, leading to intense heat in the Yangming channels and bowels.
  • Heat consumes body fluids, causing thirst, sweating, and constipation, while heat harassing the spirit may result in mental symptoms.
  • The excess heat and dryness bind in the stomach and intestines, obstructing the descending function of the bowels and leading to abdominal fullness and pain.

日常調養

  • Maintain adequate hydration with cool fluids to support fluid restoration, though avoid excessive cold drinks.
  • Adopt a light diet with easily digestible foods, avoiding spicy, greasy, or heating substances that may exacerbate heat.
  • Ensure rest and a calm environment to reduce heat stress and support recovery.
