概述

Taiyang Disease is the initial stage of externally contracted disorders in the Six Channel syndrome differentiation, characterized by pathogenic invasion of the exterior and the body surface. It is marked by floating pulse, stiffness and pain in the head and neck, and aversion to cold.

理論要點

  • Taiyang Disease represents the first phase of the Six Channel syndrome differentiation, occurring when external pathogens first attack the exterior and the superficial layers of the body.
  • The guiding principle states: 'In Taiyang disease, the pulse is floating, the head and neck are stiff and painful, and there is aversion to cold.'
  • It is divided into channel syndromes and organ syndromes. Channel syndromes include wind-strike (exterior deficiency, marked by fever, sweating, aversion to wind, and a floating and moderate pulse, treated with Guizhi Tang) and cold damage (exterior excess, marked by aversion to cold, absence of sweating, and a floating and tight pulse, treated with Mahuang Tang).
  • Organ syndromes include water retention and blood stasis patterns, reflecting deeper involvement of the bladder or small intestine functions.
  • The treatment principle primarily focuses on releasing the exterior, and the condition corresponds to the Foot Taiyang Bladder Channel and the Hand Taiyang Small Intestine Channel.

常見病機

  • External pathogenic factors invade the exterior, disrupting the defensive Qi and causing the characteristic floating pulse and aversion to cold.
  • In wind-strike, the defensive Qi is weakened, leading to sweating and aversion to wind, indicating exterior deficiency.
  • In cold damage, the defensive Qi is obstructed, resulting in absence of sweating and a tight pulse, indicating exterior excess.
  • If the pathogen progresses to the organ level, it may impair the bladder's qi transformation, leading to water retention, or affect blood circulation, causing blood stasis.

日常調養

  • Rest and avoid exposure to wind and cold to support the body's recovery from exterior invasion.
  • Maintain a light diet with warm fluids to promote sweating and expel pathogens, as appropriate for the pattern.
  • Dress warmly and avoid excessive physical exertion to prevent further weakening of the exterior defense.
