概述

San Jiao, or the Triple Burner, is one of the six fu organs in Traditional Chinese Medicine, encompassing the upper, middle, and lower burners. It serves as the pathway for the circulation of primordial Qi and body fluids, and is associated with the Hand Shaoyang Sanjiao meridian.

理論要點

  • The Triple Burner is the collective term for the upper, middle, and lower burners, functioning as the channel through which Yuan Qi (primordial Qi) flows and fluids are metabolized.
  • The upper burner, located above the diaphragm and including the heart and lungs, governs the diffusion and dispersal of Qi and fluids, likened to a mist.
  • The middle burner, from the diaphragm to the navel, includes the spleen and stomach, and is responsible for decomposing food, transforming and transporting nutrients, and generating Qi and blood, likened to a fermenting vat.
  • The lower burner, below the navel, includes the kidneys, bladder, large and small intestines, and manages the separation of clear from turbid fluids and the excretion of urine and feces, likened to a drainage ditch.
  • The Triple Burner as a whole governs the movement and transformation of Qi throughout the body, and is described as the official of irrigation, with the passage for water in the Huangdi Neijing.

常見病機

  • Dysfunction of the Triple Burner can lead to accumulation of fluids, manifesting as edema or dampness, and disruption of Qi movement, causing distension or pain.
  • In the theory of warm diseases, San Jiao differentiation is used as a framework to diagnose and treat externally contracted febrile diseases, with patterns progressing from upper to middle to lower burner.
  • Imbalance in the Triple Burner may also affect the harmonious transformation of Qi and fluids, potentially impacting the functions of the organs housed within each burner.

日常調養

  • Maintain regular physical activity to promote the smooth flow of Qi and fluids throughout the body.
  • Adopt a balanced diet with adequate hydration, avoiding excessive cold or damp-producing foods to support the Triple Burner's transformative functions.
  • Manage stress through practices like meditation or deep breathing, as emotional well-being supports the free movement of Qi.
