概述

The Six Fu Organs are a group of hollow viscera in Traditional Chinese Medicine comprising the gallbladder, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, urinary bladder, and San Jiao. They are responsible for receiving, decomposing, and transforming ingested food and fluids, as well as transmitting and excreting waste products. They are categorized as Yang and pertain to the exterior.

理論要點

  • The Six Fu Organs are characterized by their function of transmitting and transforming substances rather than storing them; they are constantly active and should remain unobstructed.
  • Their physiological activities are described as 'taking the unobstructed as the norm' and 'taking the descending as the favorable direction'.
  • Each Fu organ is paired with a corresponding Zang organ in a exterior-interior relationship, and their functions are governed and coordinated by the associated Zang organ.
  • The San Jiao is considered the 'official of the waterways' and serves as the pathway for the circulation of Qi and body fluids throughout the body.
  • The gallbladder stores bile and is unique among the Fu organs as it contains a refined substance, yet it still participates in the process of digestion and excretion.

常見病機

  • Disorders of the Six Fu Organs often manifest as disturbances in their transmission and transformation functions.
  • Stomach Qi failing to descend may lead to nausea, vomiting, belching, or acid regurgitation.
  • Loss of the large intestine's function of conduction may result in constipation or diarrhea.
  • Impaired Qi transformation in the urinary bladder can cause urinary difficulties, frequency, or retention.
  • The gallbladder failing to maintain free flow of Qi may lead to hypochondriac pain, bitter taste in the mouth, or jaundice.

日常調養

  • Maintain regular eating habits and avoid overeating or irregular meal times to support the stomach and intestines.
  • Ensure adequate fluid intake and regular urination to promote the function of the urinary bladder and San Jiao.
  • Engage in moderate physical activity and manage stress to facilitate the smooth flow of Qi and the proper functioning of the Fu organs.
