概述
The Kidney (Shen) is one of the five zang organs in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), associated with the element Water, the phase of lesser yin (shaoyin), and paired with the Urinary Bladder. It stores essence (jing), governs water metabolism, controls bone and marrow, and is considered the root of life and prenatal constitution.
理論要點
- The Kidney is the storehouse of prenatal and postnatal essence, governing growth, development, and reproduction, and is regarded as the 'root of prenatal life'.
- The Kidney governs water, regulating and maintaining the balance of fluid metabolism throughout the body.
- The Kidney controls the reception of qi, grasping the clear qi inhaled by the Lung to ensure deep and normal respiration.
- The Kidney governs bones, produces marrow, and connects with the brain, which is the 'sea of marrow'; kidney essence nourishes bones, teeth, and hair.
- The Kidney opens into the ears and the two lower orifices (urethra and anus), and its brilliance manifests in the hair.
- The Kidney is related to the emotion of fear and the fluid of saliva; its external manifestation is in the lower back and knees.
