概述

Yu Xue, or Static Blood, is a pathological product of impaired blood circulation or stasis that accumulates in the body, and it also acts as a secondary pathogenic factor. It includes extravasated blood retained in tissues (e.g., from trauma) and blood that flows sluggishly or becomes blocked in meridians or organs. Its characteristic signs include fixed, stabbing pain worse at night, palpable masses, recurrent bleeding with dark clots, cyanotic lips and nails, tongue ecchymoses, and a wiry or choppy pulse.

理論要點

  • Static Blood arises when blood circulation is impeded, leading to stagnation that fails to nourish tissues and organs.
  • It can be caused by qi stagnation, blood deficiency, cold congealing, heat scorching, or trauma, all of which disrupt the normal movement of blood.
  • Static Blood is both a product of disease and a cause of further pathology, perpetuating a cycle of obstruction and dysfunction.
  • It obstructs qi movement, impairs the generation of new blood (as the saying goes, 'if static blood is not removed, new blood cannot be born'), and disrupts normal physiological activities.

常見病機

  • Pain is fixed in location, stabbing in nature, aggravated by pressure, and worse at night due to blood stasis obstructing the channels.
  • Masses or swellings are fixed and palpable, such as bruises from trauma or internal accumulations (zheng jia) in organs.
  • Bleeding may recur with dark, clotted blood, as static blood impedes the proper containment of blood within vessels.
  • Signs of blood stasis include cyanotic lips and nails, purplish tongue with ecchymoses, and a choppy (se) pulse, reflecting impaired blood flow.

日常調養

  • Maintain regular physical activity to promote smooth blood circulation and prevent stasis.
  • Avoid prolonged sitting or immobility, which can contribute to blood stagnation.
  • Manage emotional stress, as emotional disturbances can lead to qi stagnation and subsequently blood stasis.
