寒邪

hán xié病因

概述

Cold Pathogen (Han Xie) is a fundamental concept in Traditional Chinese Medicine referring to a pathogenic cold that can invade the body from outside or arise from internal Yang deficiency. It is characterized by its yin nature, tendency to damage Yang Qi, and ability to cause stagnation and contraction, leading to symptoms such as chills, pain, and clear discharges.

理论要点

  • Cold is the dominant qi of winter, and injury by external cold is termed external cold, manifesting as either cold damage (shang han) or direct cold strike (zhong han), while Yang deficiency can generate internal cold.
  • Cold is a yin pathogen that easily damages Yang Qi, resulting in symptoms like aversion to cold, cold limbs, pale complexion, and clear, thin secretions and excretions.
  • Cold has the property of congealing and stagnation, causing Qi, blood, and body fluids to condense and block, leading to pain due to obstruction; it also has a contracting nature, causing the skin pores to close, tendons and vessels to tighten, leading to absence of sweating and limited joint movement.
  • Invasion by cold pathogen can manifest as aversion to cold with fever, absence of sweating, and a tight pulse, or as cold pain in the epigastrium and abdomen, vomiting, and diarrhea.

常见病机

  • External cold invades the exterior, constraining the defensive Qi and causing symptoms such as chills, fever, and anhidrosis.
  • Cold congeals Qi and blood, leading to stagnation and pain, often severe and fixed in location.
  • Cold contracts the sinews and vessels, causing spasms, rigidity, and reduced flexibility of the limbs.
  • Internal cold due to Yang deficiency results in diminished warming and transformation, leading to cold extremities, clear fluids, and digestive disturbances.

日常调养

  • Keep the body warm, especially during cold weather, to prevent invasion of external cold.
  • Avoid excessive consumption of cold foods and drinks, which can impair Yang Qi and generate internal cold.
  • Engage in regular moderate exercise to promote circulation of Qi and blood and support Yang Qi.
