bā fǎ治则治法

概述

The Eight Therapeutic Methods are a systematic framework of eight basic treatment strategies in Traditional Chinese Medicine, consolidated by Qing dynasty physician Cheng Zhongling. They address different pathological mechanisms and are used alone or in combination to restore balance.

理論要點

  • The eight methods—sweating, emesis, purging, harmonizing, warming, clearing, dispersing, and tonifying—correspond to the Eight Principles and various disease mechanisms.
  • Sweating (han fa) releases the exterior, emesis (tu fa) induces vomiting, purging (xia fa) unblocks the bowels and drains excess, and harmonizing (he fa) regulates and reconciles.
  • Warming (wen fa) expels cold from the interior, clearing (qing fa) reduces heat and fire, dispersing (xiao fa) resolves accumulations and stagnation, and tonifying (bu fa) supplements vital Qi.
  • The methods are flexible and can be combined, such as warming with purging, clearing with tonifying, or simultaneous attack and supplementation.
  • Application of the methods is tailored to time, place, and individual constitution.

常見病機

  • Exterior syndromes require sweating to expel pathogens; interior excess may necessitate purging or dispersing.
  • Cold patterns are treated with warming, heat patterns with clearing, and mixed or complex conditions with harmonizing.
  • Deficiency of vital Qi calls for tonifying, while excess conditions may require attack methods; combined patterns need integrated approaches.

日常調養

  • Maintain a balanced lifestyle to support the body's natural regulatory mechanisms.
  • Follow practitioner guidance on dietary and activity adjustments based on the chosen therapeutic method.
